USSOUTHCOM new logo proposition

Description

As America's economic and political dominance wanes in an increasingly capitalized, democratized, and globalized world, the US in order to maintain its interests will have to rely more on "soft power", the combination of investment, culture, image, and diplomacy to attract others to want what Washington wants. The following sketch is designed to "soften" the image of an otherwise coercive ("hard") instrument of power, a regional military command. This "softening" is not a new idea, as private-sector companies do this to themselves from time to time through advertising campaigns and logo changes. As a public servant, I feel that this is appropriately related to the duties of my office -- human communication.

This is an emblem I drew as a possible replacement for the current logo of the US Southern Command, a four-star general area of responsibility covering Central and South America. The emblem consists of a cross (representing the dominant religion of the region, Christianity), inset with the Crux constellation (a common symbol of the Southern Hemisphere) and a four-point compass rose. This is all enclosed by two olive branches and a ribbon inscribed with the label "Estados Unidos Comando Sur" ("US Southern Command" in Spanish, the dominant language of the region).

As any actual Spanish speaker may realize, the ribbon should instead read "Estados Unidos Comando Sureño". I just currently cannot find the original drawing to edit and rescan.
